Asteroid Prison Break is a high crucial event in Invincible, in which the Unopan Coalition soldier Allen rescues the Viltrumite betrayer, Nolan from his execution before recruiting him to join the Coalition of Planets' efforts in stopping his people's reign of terror once and for all. This was one of the two events, that signified the genesis of the Viltrumite War, the climactic event between the Coalition and the Viltrum Empire.
Unlikely Reunion[]

Upon discovering that the Unopan Coalition soldier, Allen, had become strong enough to compete with them in battle, the Viltrumites captured him and took him to their prison. There, their scientists planned to investigate the source of his strength. However, what they didn't realize was that Allen had allowed himself to be captured with the intention of rescuing Nolan from his execution. He had learned about what had happened on Thraxa from his son, Invincible.
Awaiting Execution[]

Nolan realizes he truly misses his first wife, Debbie Grayson.
After several months of being held in a hospital for incarceration, a fully recovered Nolan, ready for his execution, found himself reunited with Allen. While in their respective cells, the two shared a telepathic heart-to-heart conversation about everything that had transpired. Allen praised Nolan for his heroic actions on Thraxa and urged him to join the Coalition's efforts to defeat the Empire once and for all. However, Nolan declined, explaining his newfound compassion for "lesser beings" and how he had accepted his death as a fitting punishment for his crimes. Despite his guilt, he realized that he genuinely missed his first wife, Debbie.

Nolan and Allen formed a friendship; in the end, Nolan became concerned for his new friend, who was experimented by the prison scientists to uncover the source of his strength, which consistently ended in failure. Allen saw this as progress in his reform initiatives and in bolstering the Coalition cause. They also forged a connection through their romantic relationships while Allen persisted in trying to persuade Nolan to join the Coalition, yet he stayed resolute in embracing his fate. Ultimately, after a four-month delay, on the day scheduled for Nolan's execution, he wished his Unopan friend the best as he was taken away, but Allen refused to accept Nolan's decision.
The Breakout[]

Allen and Battle Beast rescue Nolan.
Allen escaped and orchestrated a chaotic breakout that led to the liberation of several prisoners, who were all killed by the guards, but luck turned to fortune when encountering the intergalactic combatant Battle Beast who was previously imprisoned. Battle Beast was told by Allen about the viltrumites, and if he could help get Nolan, the two would be his, not Nolan however.

The Ritual begins..
In the execution ceremony, Nolan is in chains, beaten by the guards with his inch of his life. During the ceremony the guards mention the crimes committed by Nolan, along with a possible future inspection of his family tree, to figure where did his sudden betrayal come from?

Nolan, enraged by the beatdown of his friend, finally chooses his side and lives his life no longer a servant of Viltrum.
Utilizing their collective power, they defeated all the vulnerable alien sentinels and made their way to Nolan's execution room, where an ultimate conflict occurred. Battle Beast fought one of the guards, while Allen who finally got through to Nolan by having him save his life from one of the Viltrumites and prove he has changed for the better and could do more good for his family.

Allen and Nolan both launch a "very" powerful hit on the viltrumite guard!
By the climax of the event, more guards arrived, forcing Allen to take the fight into space. All the guards perished due to a lack of oxygen, except for Nolan, Allen, Battle Beast, and the Viltrumite guards. The viltrumite guard that Nolan and Allen fought was finally bested by a double teamwork attack, where they both hit his skull so hard that his brain imploded, killing him for good.
Hidden Secret[]

Nolan reveals to Allen that the Viltrumites are a dying race.
In the end, everyone was killed except for Nolan, Allen, and Battle Beast, who got lost in the depths of space amidst the battle. Following their triumph, Allen ultimately succeeded in persuading Nolan to support the Coalition cause, so he may restore his reputation with his family by demonstrating that he has changed for the better. As Allen voiced his worries about reinforcements arriving shortly, Nolan reassured him that no Viltrumite would be sent to recapture them; he disclosed to Allen the real reason behind the hold-up in his execution and the lack of reinforcements, a secret the Viltrumites had desperately attempted to conceal from the universe: they are a nearly extinct race, with less than fifty pure-blooded Viltrumites left in the universe.
In another location, Battle Beast persists in battling the other guard. Ultimately, he succeeds in killing the Viltrumite, violently dismembering and ripping him into pieces of flesh. His unidentifiable remains are later discovered next to Battle Beast's frozen body by an unidentified alien vessel, which transported Battle Beast's body with them. Battle Beast awakens from his deep sleep with the thirst for more combat.
