Gretchen Duvall, was a minor yet crucial character in Invincible, debuting in Season 3. She was the late niece of Scott Duvall, who was killed in the Destruction of Chicago.
The demise of Gretchen and her mother is the primary reason why her uncle targeted Invincible, as he blamed him as much as he blamed his father, Omni-Man, for his role in their deaths.

History[]
Background[]
The early history of Gretchen Duvall remains unknown, except that she was born to her mother, Jessica, and an unknown man.

Invincible trying to save Jessica and Gretchen.
Gretchen along with her mother would be among the many casualties in Chicago in the horrific battle between Omni-Man and Invincible. At the time, she was merely in the park with Scott and Jessica, feeding pigeons, before they all went back to their apartment with Scott staying behind to get a coffee. When Invincible and Omni-Man crashed through the city, the apartment building Gretchen and Jessica were in started to collapse. Invincible rushed over to stop this, inadvertently breaking all the windows with the sheer speed of his flight. An injured Jessica fell out of one of the windows and Invincible managed to grab onto her with Gretchen reaching out from the ledge. Unfortunately, Invincible could not stop the building from collapsing nor save the two, and emerged from the rubble only find that both were dead, leaving him in shock. Meanwhile, an equally devastated Scott was watching from afar and saw the severed leg of his niece buried under the rubble.
Legacy[]
Scott Duvall, uncle of Gretchen, has since blamed the death of his niece and sister not only on Omni-Man, but also his son, Invincible. He also worked for the G.D.A, most notably their science division. This allowed him to get his hands on experimental energy storage technology which he used to amplify his existing kinetic energy absorption powers. Together with his wife, Becky, Scott then went on mad crusade of vengeance against Invincible as Powerplex. This sadly ended in the demise of Becky as well as Scott's infant son. Even then, Scott refused to take responsibility for his actions and blames everything on Invincible, swearing vengeance against him.

Trivia[]
- Gretchen's role in the series was minor in the first season, yet integral in the third. Her death, as well as the death of her mother, is what drove her uncle into going on a crusade of vengeance against Invincible, becoming the supervillain known as Powerplex.
- Her name is obviously a reference to Gretchen Schwartz of the Breaking Bad series.
