No Nikki, you know guardians business is too dangerous for human children.
—Martian Man's reminder to Nikki in It's About Time

Martian Man was a Martian exiled on Earth and an original member of the Guardians of the Globe. Martian Man protected Earth until his demise at the hands of Omni-Man.

History[]

Background Information[]

Long before his arrival on Earth, Martian Man was exiled from Mars by his own race, the exact circumstances of which are entirely unknown. He eventually arrived on Earth and became a superhero on the planet. During his time on the planet, he would become an original member of the Guardians of the Globe and befriended a human child named Nikki.

Protecting the President[]

Martian Man and the other Guardians of the Globe, arrive at the White House to protect the U.S. President from a sudden attack by the Mauler Twins.

When one of the Twins attempted to breach the wall of the White House, Martian Man and Aquarus worked cooperatively to toss an APC at the breaching Twin, successfully preventing him from entering the White House. The two then proceeded to enter the White House and split up to evacuate any civilians inside more effectively.

After all civilians and military personnel were evacuated, Martian Man reassembled with his fellow Guardians to assist in fighting against the Mauler Twins. Martian Man used his powers to throw one of the Twins against the other, and successfully restrained them, allowing Red Rush to attack them with a flurry of punches. Eventually, the Mauler Twins were defeated and imprisoned.

Called to Action[]

Martian Man was in an abandoned building with his friend, Nikki ,who was motivating Martian Man to stretch as much as he could in order to beat his personal stretching record, which he eventually managed to do. After returning to humanoid form, he temporarily felt exhausted due to excessive exertion. They were interrupted when Martian Man's wristband went off, prompting Martian Man to go to the Guardians' HQ. Nikki asked Martian Man to take her with him, but Martian Man refused, stating that "Guardian business is too dangerous for human children", and flew away.

Betrayed and Killed[]

After the arrival of the last Guardian member, Darkwing, Martian Man and the other Guardians discovered they were tricked into meeting at their HQ. It was revealed that Omni-Man was the one who signaled the alert as a bait in order to attack the Guardians all at once. After a brief struggle, Omni-Man was able to grab Red Rush by the head, and slowly began to squeeze it. Martian Man and the other Guardians rushed to help their friend, but they could only watch in utter horror as Omni-Man eventually crushed Red Rush's head, killing him.

Red Rush's death prompted Martian Man to wrap himself around Omni-Man, restraining him and allowing The Immortal and War Woman to attack Omni-Man a few times. Omni-Man quickly broke free from Martian Man's grasp, temporarily disabling him in the process. By the time Martian Man recovered, Omni-Man had murdered Darkwing and Green Ghost, and injured The Immortal and War Woman.

As Aquarus was restraining Omni-Man, he asked Martian Man if he was alright, to which Martian Man responded by saying he'd live. The remaining 4 Guardians then attacked Omni-Man, but he managed to grab War Woman's mace, swinging it through Aquarus's head and sending his body hurtling at Martian Man's feet. Upon seeing his colleague's dead body, Martian Man became enraged and once again restrained Omni-Man in place, allowing Immortal and War Woman to pummel away at Omni-Man. However, their advantage would be short-lived, as Omni-Man managed to grab Martian Man's core in his shapeshifted form, tearing it out and killing him. Omni-Man then proceeded to brutally murder the remaining two Guardians, before passing out from exhaustion and the injuries he suffered.

Aftermath[]

In the bloody aftermath, the Global Defense Agency breached the room and brought in paramedics to check for casualties and recover the bodies. His name was mentioned in Omni-Man's eulogy along with the names of his other deceased colleagues.

Roughly a year after his passing, Martian Man was honored on a news program along with the other Guardians of The Globe, giving Shapesmith the idea of becoming a superhero.

Physical Appearance[]

Martian Man, as all other Martians, appears as extraterrestrial being with light olive skin. His head resembles a rectangular shape, with it being naturally long in height. Strangely unlike other Martians, his eyes are purely yellow. As a superhero, he would wear a suit that would be colored light yellow on his chest and middle arms, while his upper and lower body is colored light purple, with the edge of each part sporting white outlines. Due to his shapeshifting abilities, Martian Man is able to contort and elasticize his body to any shape, mostly turning into a bind to constrain his enemies. Like all the other Guardians, Martian Man wore a piece of equipment resembling a wristband that would signal an alert anytime him or any of the other Guardians were needed in action.

Personality[]

Martian Man was the kindest of all the Guardians, as he was shown befriending a homeless child and took the time to save the people of Earth, a people not his own. Due to being from another planet, Martian Man had been shown to be lonely sometimes, with his only friend outside of the Guardians being Nikki. Of all the Guardians, he was closest with Aquarus as the two were both non-humans on Earth, and he became extremely enraged after Aquarus was slaughtered by Omni-Man, letting out an animalistic hiss.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Martian Physiology: Martian Man is a Martian, a race of metamorphic aliens inhabiting the planet of Mars, native to an underground city beneath the planets surface. His unique physiology enables him to achieve a multitude of abilities, such as;
    • Flight: Martian Man can comfortably fly in Earth's atmosphere.
    • Shapeshifting: Martian Man's physiology allows him to shapeshift, an ability shared by the Martian Race. This enables him to become elastic which he commonly uses to wrap around enemies. Martian Man can become paper-thin when shapeshifting.
    • Superhuman Strength: Martian Man had a considerable degree of strength, demonstrated when he threw a tank while fighting the Mauler Twins.
    • Superhuman Durability: While shapeshifting, Martian Man was highly durable to physical injury. He was also able to apply pressure inwards to restrain his opponents, such as the Mauler Twins and even briefly against Omni-Man.

Weaknesses[]

  • Exposed Core: Martian Man's weakness is that when he is using his metamorphosis ability, he still has a central core. This is shown in the fight with Omni-Man, as there is a small bump on his stretched out surface. When Omni-Man grabbed it and ripped it out, he immediately died.
    • Involuntary Movement: Martian Man was unable to control where his core was during his metamorphosis ability. Had he kept his core on Omni-Man's back, the latter would not have been able to reach it and kill him.
  • Over-exertion: If Martian Man stretched too far or an enemy stronger than him broke his hold on them, his shapeshifted form would often go limp before "melting" and reverting back to his normal self. In this state, he would sweat profusely and be visibly exhausted.

Appearances[]

Comic Differences[]

  • As a character, Martian Man mostly stays faithful to the comics, however like the rest of the guardians, he is fleshed out a bit more right before his death.
  • Martian Man (Comics)

Martian Man's design in the comics.

Martian Man's design is drastically altered from the comics, being much more green and muscular, sporting antennas on his head, as well as having white eyes.
    • His costume colors were completely different in the comics, with his whole suit being light blue, while his accessories being red.
    • His costume also didn't fully reach down to his arms, with it originally reaching lower to his legs, sporting a cape, and belt.
    • Unlike his show counterpart, Martian Man had a civilian identity in the comics, shapeshifting into a white muscular male with brown hair, sporting a red shirt and blue jeans.
  • His death is slightly different in the comics as he would get his guts ripped out in comparison to the show where his core would get ripped out.

Trivia[]

  • Martian Man is based on Martian Manhunter from the DC Comics.
  • Martian Man is the fifth guardian that is killed by Omni-Man.
    • It Is also unknown where his corpse was during the aftermath of the battle between Omni-Man. It’s likely that his corpse dissolved after his core was torn out.
