Noise Makers are specialized devices created and utilized by the Global Defense Agency in their mission to defend the Earth from the impending threat of the Viltrumite Empire.

History[]

Background[]

Following the discovery of Omni-Man's true nature and motives, the Global Defense Agency led by Cecil Stedman and Donald Ferguson set about to devise effective countermeasures against him along with any other Viltrumites that would arrive. They performed extensive research on Omni-Man and his son, Invincible, as well as samples of Viltrumite tissue and blood collected from the both of them during their many battles. However, all of the G.D.A.s initial attempts to find a weakness ended in failure with Viltrumites proving to be a remarkably durable species. A few weakness such as beings of matching or superior strength were discovered and obtained by the G.D.A. to be weaponized and used in the future.

Trial by Combat[]

Invincible would duel against a colossal sea monster known as the Depth Dweller set on him by the Queen of Atlantis to atone for the murder of King Aquarius by Omni-Man. Invincible was able to defeat the creature when it went out of control and threatened the Atlanteans but during the fight, he was thrown back and temporarily incapacitated by a sonic shriek emitted from its maw. Meanwhile, the G.D.A. who assisted Invincible during the fight, watched it all from their monitors and quickly deduced that loud, sonic frequencies could harm Viltrumites. Using recordings from the battle, the G.D.A. worked to create devices that could emit the same kind of sound to be used as potential weapons.

Turning Point[]

Upon learning that the ReAnimen and Darkwing II belonged to the G.D.A, Invincible confronted Cecil regarding the matter. Nevertheless, Cecil countered with combative strategies, including dispatching a legion of ReAnimen after Invincible to compel his compliance. Cecil hid himself to activate a device that caused immense pain in Invincible's head. Revealing a tech team was able to reverse engineer the sound Invincible heard in Atlantis from the Depth Dweller, and actually planted the device inside his head, during one of his stays in their hospital, to be used as a kill switch.

Cecil continued to use the device on Invincible who then rushed to the Guardians' HQ to get aid from his allies. Soon after Invincible showed up, Cecil and the ReAnimen came as well, trying to make him yield with the sonic device. Upon seeing the scenario, a number of the Guardians decided to help Invincible and started battling Cecil and the ReAnimen. Invincible and the Guardians fought against waves of these creatures and succeeded in defeating all of them while deactivating Cecil's device as well. Cecil attempted to rationalize his behavior, but this incited a response from Invincible, who threatened Cecil and asserted that he was finished working for him. Robot then proceeded to remove the device from Invincible's head.

Sometime later, Cecil and the G.D.A. created more noise makers to be used in an external setting since the internal one had been disabled.

Accusing Cecil[]

When Invincible stormed the Pentagon to confront Cecil for what he thought was a spying device sent by him, Cecil used the noise makers to incapacitate Invincible while the ReAnimen restrained him. Cecil then pointed out how the spying device was not his and allowed Invincible to leave, but not before the latter warned him that this was not over.

Invincible War[]

When an evil Invincible variant attacked the Pentagon during a brutal war, Cecil used the noise makers to incapacitate the assailant while the combined might of the ReAnimen pummeled him to his demise. However, the switch for the noise makers overloaded shortly after this and shorted out in Cecil's hand. Cecil ordered the creation of more noise makers, though Donald pointed out the engineering wing had been destroyed in the attack, forcing Cecil to resort to alternative methods to combat the rest of the invading variants.
