I think everything in these books is real. And it's all stuff that can hurt Viltrumites. That's why my dad wanted me to read his books. He's telling us how to defeat the Empire.
Invincible to Allen on the truth of his father's books in "It's Not That Simple"

Nolan's Books are science fiction novels that were written by Nolan Grayson during his two-decade tenure on Earth.

History[]

Penman's Beginnings[]

In the year of 2002, Nolan came to Earth, where he signed up for an occupation of novelization, that was supposed to help out with bills and payment mortgage. He wrote books on strange supposed fictional warriors and adventures. According to Art Rosenbaum, they were science-fiction based books, but none of them ever sold right so he gave up on writing sci fi novels and lended him the books as a tip, though he never read them.

The Truth[]

More than two decades later, in 2023, Nolan was tasked by his wife, Debbie Grayson, to continue his work on his novels as a distraction to get him out of the house while she investigated whether he had a hand in the murder of the Guardians of the Globe.

Read My Books, Mark

Nolan tells his son, Mark to read his books.

Many months later, Debbie decided to remove all funding from Nolan's books and give them away to the survivors in Chicago, Illinois. On Thraxa, after being defeated and while taken away by Viltrumite soldiers, an injured Nolan urged Mark to read his books, hinting at it as a way to possibly prepare Earth for the upcoming Viltrumite invasion. Two months after leaving Earth, Mark returned and asked Debbie about them, though he was upset to learn that they were gone. However, Art Rosenbaum had kept some copies, and as Mark read through them, he realized that the contents of the books were actually real, based on Nolan's early missions in space.

Allen and Mark on Nolan's Books

Mark reveals the truth nature of his father's books to Allen.

After fully recovering from his injuries sustained in his last fight against several Viltrumites, Allen the Alien was tasked by Thaedus to bring Invincible to Talescria so that they could meet in person, believing Invincible was the key to turning the tide of the Empire's expansion. Allen arrived on Earth and informed Invincible that his boss wanted to meet with him, but he refused, having been exhausted from his excursion to Thraxa, among other personal issues. Before departing, Mark revealed Nolan's books to Allen, believing they could be helpful. Allen read one of the books and he realized that the content was actually factual information that would assist the Coalition, so he took out a scanner to copy and present it to the Council.

Scavenger Hunt[]

In early 2024, shortly after recruiting Nolan, both he and Allen were assigned by Thaedus to locate and gather all the potential assets noted in Nolan's books for the impending final confrontation with the Empire.
