In the past year, Payton's had five riots, three escapes and too many attempted breakouts to count. (...) I get it. You're suffering from overcrowding, a criminally slow response from the G.D.A. during emergencies, and a serious lack of funding.
Eve Wilkins to Payton Warden in "This Was Supposed To Be Easy"

Payton Penitentiary is a prison complex, located in Chicago, Illinois, which holds some of the most dangerous criminals in the world.

History[]

Background[]

The development of Payton Penitentiary is unknown, but for decades it has held the most dangerous criminals in the world.

Under Cecil's Reformation[]

In 2002, after killing two reformed offenders in cold blood, Cecil Stedman was sentenced to Payton for his actions. For three years, he successfully climbed the ranks in the prison system and ultimately established order in the disordered facility that experienced numerous deaths every week. In 2005, he was finally freed after being selected by his mentor and former boss, Director Radcliffe, to take on the role of the new director of the Global Defense Agency.

Invincible-Payton Union[]

Owing to insufficient funds, Atom Eve has quietly chosen to establish a company that receives notifications from specific jails, prisons, or correctional facilities about supervillains escaping or causing chaos. Furthermore, after noticing that Invincible is somewhat unemployed and has relocated from Upstate, she decides to take action on his behalf, ultimately creating the name: Invincible Inc. Eve reached out to the warden of Payton Penitentiary and proposed a deal to ensure the facility remained safe and protected from any potential break-ins and escapes. It's revealed that since 2023, Payton has had five riots, three escapes and too many attempted breakouts. In addition, they're suffering from overcrowding, and very low responses from the G.D.A. during emergencies, and a serious lack of funding.

Liu Attacks[]

In accordance with their arrangement, Invincible and Atom Eve protected Payton from intrusion attempts and escapes by both Titan and Mister Liu, and they received generous compensation for their efforts, especially after they repaired the damages that were caused to the facility.

Invincible War[]

In early 2024, the facility was decimated by Movincihawk.
