Overview

What's wrong with all of you?! He caused this. Every dead body you find is a person he killed. This is all Invincible's fault!
—Powerplex in the aftermath of the Invincible War.

Scott Duvall, better known as Powerplex is a supporting antagonist in Invincible, debuting from Season 3 and onwards.

He is a delusional and emotionally unstable scientist, who irrationally desires revenge on Invincible for his unintended role in the deaths of his sister and niece as well as the self-inflicted deaths of his wife and son.

Appearance[]

Physique[]

Scott is a Caucasian man with blond hair and green eyes. He has a slim and muscular build.

Clothing[]

Powerplex Attire[]

As Powerplex, he wears a sleek, form-fitting black bodysuit with red accents. The suit has a red, high-collared shoulder section, with red cuffs on the arms, and red stripes running down the sides of his torso and legs. The energy storage discs are placed around his body (back, arms, waist, and belly) which glow when he absorbs and projects his power. He wears metallic gray boots with knee guards. He also has a red headpiece covering his ears, but leaves most of head exposed.

Personality[]

Initially, Scott was a happy and well-adjusted individual. He cherished his family, particularly his sister, and was also a deeply affectionate uncle.

Following the fatalities of his sister and niece, Scott grew resentful and disenchanted, holding Invincible responsible for it all, even when seeing proof of Invincible genuinely battling to halt Omni-Man. Upon recognizing a chance to eliminate Invincible, Scott relinquished all he had achieved, embracing a supervillain identity to challenge Invincible.

At first, he stayed fairly compassionate, wishing to avoid innocent bystanders getting involved. However, when Scott finally confronted Invincible, despite the superhero's requests for forgiveness, knowing the identities of his sister and niece, and bearing his own suffering from Omni-Man's attack on Chicago, it only intensified Scott's quest for vengeance. Consumed by this irrational mission, he acted recklessly, accidentally murdering his own wife and son. Denying his own faults, Scott fully embraced his loathing for Invincible, pushing him further into insanity and abandoning any sense of ethics.

Despite his obsessively vengeful nature, Powerplex was an active, but brief, participant in the reconstruction efforts following the Invincible War, and fought alongside other superheroes during it, showing that he still cares for other people.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Energy Absorption: Scott's main power was to absorb the kinetic energy of objects, explosions, and other physical attacks then turn them into energy he could use for combat himself. These powers were initially low level, however, and he could not absorb much energy. They were significantly amplified through the use of energy storage discs.
    • Superhuman Strength: Scott's ability to absorb energy grants him superhuman strength and perform incredible feats of physical power. He is capable of hurling a full-grown man with enough force to send him crashing into a car.
    • Superhuman Durability: Due to his ability to absorb kinetic energy, he negs any damage he takes no matter how powerful is attack, he seems to be invincible to any kinetic attacks. He is able to endure devastating impacts and repeated blows that would be fatal to others. He can even withstand and absorb the force of strikes from beings as powerful as Invincible, and can then convert that into potentially lethal energy for his own use.

    • Energy Projection: Powerplex can project the kinetic energy he absorbs into powerful blasts. His power was strong enough to hurt and briefly defeat Invincible, incapacitating him to the extent of making him bleed. He was able to singlehandedly defeat an evil Invincible variant, emerging victorious by charring him to death.
      • Flight: Scott achieves rapid forward propulsion by discharging his energy bolts into the ground.

Equipment[]

  • Energy Storage Discs: Scott stole experimental technology which he used to amplify his existing energy absorption abilities. The discs were attached directly to his body and cannot be safely removed.

Weaknesses[]

  • Charge loss: Powerplex can be stopped by holding him in place and preventing him from receiving any more kinetic energy, until he uses up all his charge and is no longer able to use his powers.
  • Non-kinetic attack: Powerplex absorbs only the energy of kinetic attack so he can be hurt or killed by non-kinetic attacks such as sound, laser, strangulation, biochemical weapon.

Trivia[]

  • Powerplex's kinetic absorption ability is similar to that of Speedball.
  • He is based on Electro and Electrocutioner.
  • Powerplex is the second antagonist to have a vendetta for Invincible, the first being Angstrom Levy.
  • Similar to Conquest, Powerplex in the comics was also important to Mark Grayson's role as a hero, as Mark would often blame himself for the creation of Powerplex.
  • In the Season 3 teaser, Powerplex can be seen to the far right sitting with Becky Duvall.
  • Ironically enough in Breaking Bad, Jesse Pinkman (who was played by Aaron Paul) often wore black and red during the first three seasons.
  • Powerplex's build and appearance is similar to Todd.
