Rus Livingston is a character in Invincible. He was one of four astronauts sent to Mars with Invincible shadowing the mission.
However, he later became the victim of a race of extraterrestrial, mind-controlling parasites known as the Sequids. A martian was responsible for this and had taken his identity on Earth before becoming a superhero during this time.
Using Rus, the Sequids invaded Mars and attempted to do the same with Earth. However, the parasites were defeated and Rus was freed from their control. Unfortunately, Rus was once again enslaved by the Sequids when he returned home after one of them had hid itself inside his stomach.
History[]
Mission to Mars[]
Rus was one of four astronauts that were sent from Earth on a mission to Mars. When the team of astronauts landed on Mars, they were soon kidnapped by the Martians and brought to the Emperor of Mars. They were scheduled for immediate execution due to the Emperor fearing that an alien race of mind-controlling parasites known as the Sequids would take advantage of them to rise and invade Mars.
Invincible is able to help the astronauts escape, but it is later revealed that a Martian had shapeshifted and taken the place of Rus Livingston. He is then claimed by the Sequids which allow them to unify and begin their invasion of Mars.
Attacking the Guardians[]
A possessed Rus is then seen again with the Sequids successfully invading Mars and attacking the Martians. They are later seen again in the aftermath of their invasion, boarding a Martian ship and heading for Earth.
The Sequids had also forced several martians to board the battleship with them to Earth. When they detected the Guardians space shuttle, they opened fire on it. Soon enough, the Sequids sense one of their own killed by Bulletproof, and quickly made their way with Rus to its location along with the whole family. Through Rus, the Sequids announce that the Guardians cannot stop them and they then catch a glimpse of Invincible who they immediately recognize. The Sequids claim that while they cannot control him, they will control the others.
The Sequids immediately attack the Guardians while protecting Rus. Robot channels a sonic disruption that disables Rus and the Sequids, long enough to create a bigger disruption, Rus then awakes and the Sequids attack again, Atom Eve creates a force shield to buy Rudy time, however the shield is broken as the possessed Rus laughs manically.
Liberated[]
Without Eve, the Guardians attempt to still fight as many Sequids as possible. Shapesmith turns into a shield, but is overwhelmed by the Sequids. Eve awakes and creates another shield as Robot is successful in creating an EMP. Invincible and The Immortal successfully use it on Rus who is freed from Sequid control. Rus is escorted by Black Samson back to Earth with the Guardians.
Monster Girl is briefly seen transporting Rus in wheelchair, as he tries to comprehend all that has happened. Some time later, Rus is seen rebuilding his life, starting with his apartment which Shapesmith left in abysmal condition. However, upon noticing the amount of spoiled and leftover food, he throws up in the kitchen sink and then notices something moving in the water. A lone Sequid jumps out for Rus and latches itself to him, becoming one with him once more. In an indefinite amount of time, the possessed Rus soon build an army of Sequids once more in the sewers of Chicago.
Appearance[]
Rus' build is that of a middle aged man with short, brown hair. When under control by the Sequids, he has black eyes with white irises.
