Due to the lack of skill and responsibility among the new Guardians, he organized new training sessions to prepare them for combat. One night, he arrived at the scene of the Mauler Twins and Angstrom Levy's destroyed base of operations and encountered a beaten Invincible. Cecil ordered Immortal to search the wrecked warehouse. After realizing that Allen was not Omni-Man, he became convinced that Omni-Man had sent him to target Mark. Invincible arrived shortly thereafter, preventing the fight from escalating further.
After the incident, the Immortal decided to submit a letter of resignation to Cecil, much to the latter's astonishment, as he was vital to Earth's defense. The Immortal believed that he was not fit to lead, stating that he had nearly jeopardized Earth during the Sequid invasion, because he couldn't trust mark, and almost caused an inter-galactic war by attacking Allen.
