"This Was Supposed To Be Easy" is the fifth episode of the third season of Invincible, and the twenty-first episode of the show overall.
Synopsis[]
Mark and Eve start a business and encounter a familiar face. Debbie worries that Oliver's growing up too quickly.
Plot[]

Elite Guard places a collar on Multi-Paul to prevent him from duplicating himself.
A prison breakout occurs when Multi-Paul, despite being incarcerated, uses his ability to multiply. His numerous clones press against the door until the glass shatters, while the original hangs from the rafters as a means of escape—until he is tagged.
Kate visits Multi-Paul behind bars and expresses dismay over the prospect of additional sentencing. Their tense relationship is further examined through a flashback that reveals how, in their youth, both inadvertently drove their father to madness due to their uncontrolled powers and the proliferation of clones. After being captured and subjected to experiments without parental guidance, Paul eventually rejected the system and became an assassin for The Order.
Paul’s breakout is not an isolated incident. Mr. Liu, determined to retrieve his assassin, threatens Titan and his daughter, prompting Titan to visit the prison in consultation with Machine Head.
Elsewhere, Oliver deflects responsibility when Mark and Eve join him for breakfast, clarifying that a sleepover had taken place. An awkward discussion follows when Mark suggests moving out, despite Debbie’s attempts to convince Oliver to remain at home. Ultimately, Oliver and Mark agree to secure part-time jobs to afford rent, while Eve establishes a new business under the alias Invincible Inc.
Back home, Mark is surprised to learn from Debbie that Oliver has been sneaking out at night. When Mark follows Oliver, he discovers him with friends. The situation escalates when bullies appear, but Oliver uses his super speed to pull down the bullies’ trousers, diffusing the tension.
During a dinner with Rae and Rex, Titan, in a meeting with Machine Head, turns to Mark for assistance with issues involving The Order and Mr. Liu. Mr. Liu subsequently confronts Titan in his office and, upon discovering that Multi-Paul remains confined, transforms into a giant dragon to attack the prison. This prompts Eve and Mark to intervene. The ensuing battle spills inside the facility, breaking open cells and allowing Multi-Paul, along with other inmates, to escape. Although Eve initially gains the upper hand, Multi-Paul evades capture while Mark struggles to restrain the dragon. Ultimately, Machine Head returns and terminates Mr. Liu’s human form—the vessel for the dragon. Titan survives, and it is revealed that these events were part of a scheme to eliminate Mr. Liu. With Machine Head assuming control and Titan leaving The Order, the situation appears to stabilize, though Multi-Paul remains at large.
Finally, Mark and Eve discuss their future plans and decide to postpone moving into a new apartment—a decision that pleases Debbie.
